Catalog description

This course will examine the recurrent challenges to Holocaust and Genocide education: What are the fundamentals of Holocaust and Genocide education? What are students taking away from their courses on the Holocaust and genocide? To address these questions, the students will explore the variety of existing curricula for different age groups and will create their own curricula, including pedagogical objectives, topics, teaching strategies, and modes of assessment. Guest speakers will discuss their experiences dealing with these difficult histories in high school and college classrooms and highlight the essential questions that have guided their curricula and the strategies they have used to encourage interaction among students. There will be special attention paid to the recent digital strategies that have evolved to accommodate the growing number of online courses.
