LANGSTON HUGHES AND THE HARLEM RENAISSANCE

Catalog description

Prerequisite: LITT 2114 and LITT 2123. 1900-present Course and Ethnic/Postcolonial Course. American Literature Course and 20th-Century Contemporary Literature Course. This course will examine Langston Hughes' literary and personal connections to the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920s, and how that association affected and shaped his later work. And also how, in turn, Hughes tried to shape the history of the Harlem Renaissance in his autobiography and other writings. Students will read the poetry, stories and prose of Hughes as well as some works of Zora Neale Hurston, Wallace Thurman, Alain Locke, and W. E. B. DuBois. Faculty: D. ROESSEL
