1700-1900 Course, American Literature Course, and Gender/Sexuality Course. In 19th-century America, most fiction was written by and for women. We will trace the development of "women's fiction" through genres including the seduction novel, conversion narrative, domestic novel and realism, and examine the complex relationship of this literature to the dominant culture of the period.
