Applications/Approaches Course. Where does the English language come from? How did it arrive in its present form, globally and locally? This course studies the formation of the English language from its Indo-Germanic roots in early medieval Europe to the standardization practices in the early modern period, and will conclude with studies on global variations (creoles, pidgins, and dialects).
