American Literature Course. What makes a book great? Who decides? Can certain ideas or themes be considered specifically American? This course will explore these and other questions by looking at the role novels have played in the development of American Society, and at the roles race and gender and culture play in the construction of aesthetic values, literary form, and meaning.
