Prerequisite: LANG 3240 and some background in literature.Permission of Instructor required.This course covers the last five decades of novel-writing in Latin America. Texts are representative of the literary and cultural trends that have given form to the contemporary Latin-American novel during this time. It includes an examination of the novel as a literary genre, and of the Latin American sense of identity. The authors are well-known in and outside Latin America, such as Asturias, Garcia Marquez (both Nobel laureates), Rulfo, Vargas-Llosa, Rosario Castellanos, and others. This course requires an excellent command of the Spanish language.Faculty: N. GRASSO
