BEGINNING AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE I

Catalog description

This course counts toward the Disability Studies minor. Beginning ASL 1 is designed for students who do not have any knowledge of American Sign Language or Deaf Culture. Students learn linguistic features, cultural protocols and core vocabulary so they can have basic ASL conversations. Emphasis is placed on comprehension, production and interactional skills. The course is taught in the target language ASL, without using English, and it follows a functional-notional approach contextualizing ASL within everyday experiences.
