Open only to juniors and seniors.Historical consciousness course (H). This course investigates the role of the museum in the creation and evaluation of the African American experience from the late nineteenth century to the present. In addition to some lectures and discussions, using WebCT, students will be visiting and using museums, particularly that of the African American Heritage Museum of Southern New Jersey in Newtonville, NJ. A major part of this course will be to engage in the process of collecting and cataloging materials such as books, letters, articles, photographs and other significant memorabilia pertaining to African American history and culture. Students will be required to spend one class a week at the African American Heritage Museum.Faculty: R.GREGG
