Prerequisite: One course in ancient history, or the history of Western Civilization.Historical consciousness course.This seminar examines in depth the Age of Constantine, from the reorganization of the Roman Empire under Diocletian (284) to the death of Emperor Julian (363). On the basis of original sources (Lactantius, Eusebios, Basel of Caesarea, Ammianus Markellinus) in an English translation, this course seeks to engage students in research and class discussions on a variety of topics in a period considered transitional from antiquity to the Christian Middle Ages.Faculty: D.
