Historical consciousness course (H).This course will examine the multiple ways of defining Self and Other in ancient Greece. According to Herodotus, Greek identity was a combination of common blood, language, religion, and customs. In this course we will explore these and other categories of identity in order to better understand both how the ancient Greeks viewed themselves and how the modern historian can discover the Greek Other.
