Catalog description

Historical consciousness course. (H)This course is designed to help students make the transition from taking courses in History to preparing assignments for social studies teaching at the elementary or secondary school level. The subject matter will focus on the four medieval civilizations of the Mediterranean world: Western Europe, the Byzantine Empire, and Islamic Empires, and medieval Jewish cultures. It will include working with and creating Web pages. Students will work on a series of projects designed to allow them to take the subject matter of the course and develop their own K-12 assignments. The course will also include discussion of professional attitudes and dispositions for teachers. Students interested in the EDUC program can use the course to fulfill the medieval requirement, technology requirement, and integrative social studies requirement.Faculty: L. ROSNER
