AMERICAN WOMEN IN WORLD WAR II

Catalog description

In this course, students will analyze the contributions of American women during World War II, comparing the unique situation of women in New Jersey, particularly in Atlantic City, to the national narrative. Students will research both primary and secondary sources to understand the significance of women's involvement in the war effort. Topics will include: Women during the Great Depression, propaganda directed at women, homefront challenges, military women (WAC, WAVES, SPAR and Marines), Women Air Force Service Pilots, the All-American Girls Baseball League, scientists, nurses, war workers, Red Cross, USO and other volunteers, civilian defense workers, entertainers and the postwar women of the 1950s.
