Catalog description
This course examines the historical development of a small Anatolian state that became a major multi-religious, multi-ethnic Mediterranean empire. After the political and social history is covered, the course will examine questions of social and administrative organization, religion and society, the role of Greeks, Jews and Armenians, and relations with Europe.
