Historical consciousness course (H).Throughout the centuries the Mediterranean has been host to various civilizations and societies that have contributed to the formation of European civilization. However, in the past four centuries the societies and people of the Mediterranean have not kept pace with their Northern European neighbors with regard to the project of modernization. Through a comparative examination of the Mediterranean regions of Northern Europe, this course will examine the phenomenon of marginalization, and regional fragmentation into Southern Europe, North Africa, and the Levant.Faculty: T.
