This course seeks to familiarize students with major characters, events, developments, and ideas in the United States from the end of the Civil War to the present. Topics include (1) the rise and transformation of the urban-industrial order, (2) the rise of the U.S. to superpower status, and (3) the fate of liberty in the U.S.
