Catalog description

This course will examine how society responds to the problem of mental illness, including the history of mental health policy and practice in the United States. Topics such as the asylum, institutionalization, deinstitutionalization, community mental health, behavioral health, and managed care will be covered. The class will examine the value base and assumptions underlying mental health policy and practice, as well as the complexities involved in planning, implementing, and managing systems of care for mentally ill adults, children, and their families.Faculty: D.
