Catalog description

The course provides a broad view of the topic of drugs (or more aptly "substance abuse") and society. We will examine theoretical concepts underlying human behavior which lead to different policy, prevention, and treatment approaches; social, economic, historic, and political perspectives related to drug use; basic issues in drug pharmacology; effectiveness of criminalization, decriminalization, prevention and treatment approaches to drug use. Students will acquire core knowledge in each of these areas and an ability to critically examine issues in each of these areas.Faculty: W. CABIN
