This course explores Washington, DC, as the capital city of the world's greatest power and the place where federal laws are made, but also as a city that is controlled by non-residents. An overview of how the United States Government enacts laws, it includes meetings with the people who get bills through the House of Representatives and the Senate and to the President for his signature. It also examines the influence on legislation of lobbyists, individual concerned citizens, pressure groups, newspapers and TV. It also explores the Supreme Court's impact on legislation and how the bureaucracy can give new meaning to a bill.Faculty: C. YEAGER
