What constitutes an act in the name of "global justice"? What is a violation of a global justice norm? Furthermore, how do we know when global justice has finally been achieved? In an age of rising populism and democratic decline, how are states and non-state actors defending the rights and freedoms of people around the world? What global norms have emerged regarding theses such as environmental justice and economic inequality? In this class, we will unpack the terms "global" and "justice" by engaging in the ethics, movements, and regimes that are associated with the concept. As such, this class will explore the subject of global justice -as a philosophy, regime, and culture - through four different frameworks or lenses: 1) philosophical and ethical debates, 2) advocacy and agenda-setting initiatives, 3) hegemonic and local interpretation of global justice, and 4) international legal regimes.
