Catalog description
This course explores the different ways in which the economic system influences and is influenced by society's perception of gender distinctions. Specific emphasis will be on the nature of gender roles within the household and its impact on the economic definitions of work and well being, on women's participation in the labor force, wage discrimination and occupational segregation. The course will also introduce some public policy issues that arise due to an understanding of the gender biases in the economy. It will also compare the biases and trends across countries.
