Catalog description

Describes biology of marine mammals, which include cetaceans (whales and dolphins), pinnipeds (seals and sea lions) and sirenians (manatees and dugongs). Discusses adaptations of land-evolved mammals to the marine habitat. Lectures will discuss the evolutionary history, physiology, morphology, and the ecological role of these marine mammals. There will be additional material on current whaling practices and the nature of "intelligence" in cetaceans.Faculty: C. SLOCUM
