MODERN HEALTH ISSUES

Catalog description

Prerequisite: High school biology.Values/Ethics course (V).The major health problems that confront our society will be discussed including cancer, heart attack, stroke, AIDS, kidney failure, ulcers, and diseases we can get from our pets. In addition, the rapidly growing area of alternative medicine (homeopathy, chiropractic, herbal medicine, acupuncture) will be examined. Medical topics that appear in the news or are of special interest to the class will be incorporated into the lectures and discussions. Student interaction is an important part of the classroom format. The objectives of this course are to give the student a working knowledge of current health issues and to promote the critical evaluation of medical information. Faculty: R. WERNER
