International/multicultural course. (I)The Amazon is the world's largest rain forest and is drained by the world's largest river by volume. This course describes the geological history of the forest, its environment, and the evolution of its flora and fauna into the extremely high diversity of present day. The three distinct river systems (white, black and clear) will be discussed including their unique water characteristics. Special emphasis will be placed upon the environmental consequences of the annual flooding of the forest. Environmental threats, possible solutions and on-going research and projects will be described based upon first-hand experience.Faculty: STAFF
