Catalog description

The plant kingdom has served as a pharmacy for mankind since prehistoric times. Teas, infusions, decoctions, and poultices of plant materials were used to treat illness long before modern pharmacology identified, purified, and synthesized the active ingredients of these herbal medicines. This course explores the realm of plants useful in medical treatment, the active ingredients in plants, and the physiological effects of plant products on humans. It includes some greenhouse, herb extraction, and herb garden work.Faculty: P. STRAUB
