Catalog description

As the average lifespan lengthens, cancer will increasingly become a cause of death for humans. Making informed decisions about the risks of environmental carcinogens, government funding for cancer research and issues of public health requires a multidisciplinary approach utilizing the fields of biology, sociology, environmental chemistry, and economics, among others. Introductory lectures on the nature and causes of cancer from the perspective of cell biology will be presented. The diagnosis and treatment of cancer, current trends in cancer research, and the cultural responses to cancer also will be discussed.
