Not open to BIOL, PUBH majors or students with credit for GNM 2179.This course examines disease, especially infectious disease, from an ecological and historical perspective. We will examine how disease influences human and animal populations, how people have tried to explain and control disease, and how diseases have affected people from prehistoric times up to the present. Much of the course content is biological and includes discussions of the kinds of agents that cause and transmit disease, the response of the infected individual, and the evolution of hosts and pathogens. We will try to explain why new diseases appear and why diseases that were once thought cured are recurring.Faculty: M. GELLER
