Catalog description

Open only to freshmen and sophomores. Not open to students with credit for any Math courses or currently taking Math courses.Quantitative reasoning intensive course (Q1).Intended for students who are not mathematics or science majors, especially students who have "math-phobia." We will discuss intuitive and approximate methods to solve problems that arise in daily life, and learn to come up with ballpark estimates on a range of practical examples. We will apply estimation techniques to a range of examples like population growth, water flow analysis, global warming, oil and pollution crises, etc. Mathematical and quantitative concepts will be introduced through examples, with a strong emphasis on practical applications.Faculty: R.
