Open only to freshmen.This is a freshman seminar.This course helps students evaluate science news reports aimed at non-scientists. The mass media is viewed as contributing to the misunderstanding of science, partly because science correspondents communicate information within severe time and space constraints, depriving the public of an appreciation for the scientific process. Discussion of the role of scientists and journalists in science education will focus on three main topics: medicine, the environment and space.Faculty: B. ROGERSON
