FAMILIES IN GENOCIDE: HISTORY AND MEMORY

Catalog description

This course focuses on the history of family in the context of five genocides: the Armenian genocide, the destruction of European Jews; the genocide in Cambodia; the mass violence in Yugoslavia; and the Rwandian genocide. We will examine family history during genocide, as well as representations of genocide by survivors and their families. We will address a major divisive historical question: the place of survivors testimony in the historical reconstruction of the genocide.
