Catalog description

This course seeks to provide a basic understanding of the religion and culture of Islam that will enable students to comprehend the rationale of the existing socio-political difference between the West, particularly the U.S., and the Islamic world. The goal is to develop an appreciation for a different culture through the study of its achievements in literature, the arts, and other topics. Also discussed will be the shortcomings and problems of Islamic societies.
