Catalog description

This course will examine how and why people consume, and the implications of this consumption activity for U.S. society and the economy. Questions to be addressed include: How has the organization of consumption activity changed over the last century? Can we sustain ever-increasing levels of consumption? Are Americans trapped in a cycle of working and spending? Can how and what we buy reflect political and social values?
