ADDICTIONS

Catalog description

Addictions are widespread phenomena that have a powerful effect on individuals and societies. The course covers many different forms of addiction (e.g. illegal drugs, tobacco, alcohol, gambling, sex, food and spending) from many different perspectives (e.g. biological, psychological, cultural, economic, philosophical, literary, and artistic). Scientific and fictional works will be used as well as film to illustrate addictive processes. Emphasis will be given to the origin, prevention and treatment of addictions as well.
