Catalog description

This course is the study of minerals and their formation. It focuses on the basics of crystallography and crystal chemistry and how those produce the physical and chemical properties of minerals. Other objectives will focus on mineral stability and their natural occurrence as mineral assemblages. The laboratory will concentrate on the identification of minerals in hand specimens and under the microscope. Requires field trips and lab. Offered in odd-numbered Falls.
