GEN 2173
THE YANKEES AND BASEBALL IN AMERICA
Stockton University · UGRD · Fall 2026
1 section
Catalog description
Baseball is known as the American pastime, and the New York Yankees are baseball's most successful and well-known franchise. A study of the sport and that is therefore a study of America: economy, diversity, memory, politics, culture and more. This course will explore the team through the lens of these perspectives, and vice versa. In the 21st century, baseball's popularity has waned, and the Yankees have faded from prominence. Why is that, and what does it say about American culture. Students will study the team and be tasked with developing their own theses and papers that join on and off-the-field aspects for critical analyses.
