Catalog description

Many think that women in the ancient world were uneducated and subjugated under a patriarchal system. Through grappling with the original source material in translation from the Talmud, students will draw a picture, not of the patriarchy which women lived under, but of the power and control which women demonstrated in their lives. We will look at case law, tales about women, and specific stories of famous women toward a goal of discovering the rich and varied lives of the women of ancient Babylonia and Israel.
