LANDSCAPE AND THE AMERICAN IMAGINATION

Catalog description

Arts Course (A). This course examines the evolving American view of nature through the frame of the photographic image, the photographers who created the images, and the impact these images had on public and private attempts to preserve nature. Through the varied aesthetics of photographic imagery, literature, and painting, students will be asked to define a uniquely personal view of nature that they will illustrate through photographs of their own. Students must provide a digital camera and a tripod. While digital single reflex lens cameras are not required, students must provide a camera that is capable of either aperture priority or shutter priority adjustment. Tripods must be able to extend to a height of at least 50 inches. Two photographic field sessions scheduled on Saturday are also required. Faculty: D. Carr
