An examination of the development of the Scandinavian nations in the 20th and early 21st as depicted in their films and literature. We will begin with a brief overview of the linguistic and cultural origins and then investigate the transformation of the culture from the "outskirts of Europe" (Hamsun) to the modern, social democracies of northern Europe.
