Catalog description
This course is designed to present an overview of dance history from its earliest beginnings to the new trends occurring today. Emphasis will be given to the existence of dance within a context of social and political change. In addition, dance will be presented as a performance medium that unites all the arts- aural, visual, and dramatic. By examining these interrelationships, "art" will emerge as a critical commentary on the climate of the times. Special emphasis will be given to the development of ballet and modern dance.
