AFRICAN SPIRITUALITY IN ART

Catalog description

In this course, we will examine artworks that show influence from forms of African spirituality, such as Ifa, Santeria, Vodou, and Candomble in a variety of mediums by Black and Latinx artists of Africa and the African diaspora. We will consider how the dynamics of race, gender, sexuality, and nationality inform the perspectives of artists working with themes of African spirituality in their art.
