Movies attract viewers for a variety of reasons. Many people watch movies simply because they want to be entertained. Others watch movies for validation of their own human struggle or with hope that they will move past struggles. Moviemakers, including screenwriters, directors, light and costume designers, camera operators, actors, etc., put tremendous energy into the transformation of two-dimensional story into a three-dimensional, artistic reflection of human experience. This course explores film as an art form that reflects the human condition. It challenges the viewer to critically analyze how and why the movies was successful in portraying various situations and evoking emotions.
