Catalog description

Not open to students with credit for GAH 1052 or GAH 3304. Jewish stories from the bible to the present will be read and discussed. Particular emphasis will be placed on the role of storytelling in Judaism as a religious and social tool; the development of specific themes over time; and the role of the storyteller. Major themes include the Jew as the outsider, adaption to the more modern world, alienation and assimilation. No prior emphasis on Judaism is required.
