Catalog description

Today's hip-hop theatre movement is as American as apple pie; yet its roots are fundamentally African. This course will explore the distinctions of hi-hop theatre through in-class readings from scripts, student presentations, guest lecturers, films adaptations of plays, and discussions about the readings/lectures/films. Further, the course will highlight materials which both influence and represent the current hip-hop theatre movement. We will examine plays written in the period since post-Civil Rights Era up through and including the 2005 Hip-Hop Theatre Festival.
