Catalog description
The purpose of the course is to increase the student's visual literacy through critical appraisal of various films portraying mental illness. This course will explore the culture conceptions of and biases toward mental health and illness as presented in the films. Objectives: Develop an understanding of cultural conceptions and misconceptions of mental health and illness as depicted in film; develop an ability to critique the artistic effort of the director, i.e. the use of lighting, music, and characterization in manipulating the feelings and beliefs of the viewer.
