Catalog description

This course emphasizes a systematic approach to sculpture and 3-D design. It will include the utilization of mathematical relationships in the creation of sculptural form. Regularity, objectivity and precision will be stressed as a means to understanding and achieving beauty and harmony in three dimensions. Modular unit composition, polyhedrons, prism form and wall structures are some areas explored. The elements and principles of design as well as a variety of sculpting techniques will be taught so that students using their knowledge and experiences may create visual exciting and dynamic works. We will observe and discuss some contemporary sculptors who use mathematics and science in their art.
