Catalog description

This course will explore Jewish mysticism from traditional and contemporary perspectives. Students will engage various texts in order to understand the Jewish mystical understanding of God, and God's relationship to the world through the concepts of creation, revelation and redemption. Each of these concepts will be examined from primary source texts including the Bible, the Zohar (the fundamental rabbinic work of Jewish mysticism), Hassidic and Renewalist writings. Secondary sources will also be used to help students grasp how the ideas embodied in these texts have developed through history and attempt to understand their meaning in today's world.Faculty: STAFF
