Catalog description

This course surveys the history of graphic design through slide lectures, readings, projects, and papers. Topics include the invention of writing and the alphabet, the medieval manuscript, the origins of typography and printing, graphic design in the Industrial Age including the development of photography and Art Noveau, the influence of modern art movements, visual identity programs, the conceptual image, and computer graphics in today"s global dialogue.
