PUBLIC LANDS STEWARDSHIP- YELLOWSTONE EXPERIENCE

This prep course prepares you for the 10 day field experience in Yellowstone National Park from mid-May. The prep course covers the stewardship of public lands in NJ and features about 8 speakers who will discuss different perspectives on a number of different issues affecting NJ. Connections will be made to the major issues confronting Yellowstone National Park, which is about 40% of the size of the New Jersey (forest fires, winter use (e.g. the snowmobile issue), reintroduction of wolves, invasive species in Lake Yellowstone, bison and elk management (with respect to Brucellosis), bear management, thermal features and bioprospecting. Specific stakeholders, including NPS staff, ranchers, outfitters, hunters, environmental organizations and the local Chamber of Commerce, will address us on those issues during the two credit Summer field trip to be held in Yellowstone National Park (surcharge, about $1100). Prerequisites: ENVL 2100 AND ENVL 2200 AND ENVL 2400 AND ENVL 2600 with a grade of C or better.
