This course introduces the principles and applications of remote sensing, the science and technology of obtaining information about the Earth’s surface from a distance using sensors on satellites or aircraft. Remote sensing is part of daily life and plays a vital role in monitoring environmental change, human impacts on the environment, and supporting decision-making processes in environmental policies. Students explore how remote sensing can be utilized for environmental monitoring and resource management, focusing on major natural resource components such as vegetation and water systems. Key topics include image scale and resolution, geometric correction, radiometric enhancement, classification, accuracy, and uncertainty. Students will use remote sensing software packages and integrate results into geographic information systems.
