Prerequisite: ENVL 2400 or equivalent and ENVL 2100 and ENVL 2200 and ENVL 2600 or Permission of instructor for non-ENVL majors.Provides basic education and training in geographical information Systems (GIS) for students who have stronger background in other field(s) and want to learn the basic skill of GIS for standard applications. The class covers overview of GIS principles and concepts, important applications, knowledge of data structures, acquisition, formatting, database creation, and standard GIS applications in a practical way. Students who have taken the class are expected to know: what GIS is, what GIS does, when GIS is needed, and how to create a GIS database to answer questions about spatial variations of geographic phenomena.
