Catalog description

Prerequisite: Open to juniors and seniors only.Cross-Listed: EDUC 5205.This course introduces the historical foundation of ESL and bilingual education, current research in effective methodologies, trends and best teaching practices. Other topics include content and culture-based language teaching in the context of oracy and literacy instruction. The Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) Model will be introduced and used as a model for lesson planning. Practicing teachers will be encouraged to develop and demonstrate best practices in ESL/BE instruction.
